36 Views for Four Horns

この作品のタイトルは、葛飾北斎の《富嶽三十六景》に着想を得ています。『富嶽三十六景』は、富士山を様々な場所や角度から描いた版画の連作です。
本作のコンセプトは、対象を異なる視点から繰り返し見つめることです。四本のホルンは、ときに同じ対象を異なる角度や距離から捉えた姿として、またときにはその対象の断片として現れます。
音楽における変奏の考え方を出発点としながらも、本作の関心は素材そのものを変形することだけではありません。同じ対象であっても、視点や距離が変化することで異なる音像として立ち現れることにあります。
『日本民謡による3つのブルレスク』
作曲家：山田栄二
この曲は、東京ホルン・クワルテットの委嘱により、今年の5月に書きあげた。ブルレスク（おどけた、ふざけたの意味）とあるように、遊びの要素をふんだんに盛り込んだユーモラスな3つの小品から出来ている。
I おてもやん／日本民謡には殆ど3拍子系の曲がない。そこで前後の曲と変化をつけるため、原曲の軽妙な2拍子を少しとぼけた3拍子に変化させてみた。
それにしても、原曲の方言（熊本弁）丸出しのユニークな歌詞は他に例をみない。
II ちゃっきり節／静岡県民謡による陽気で快活なフィナーレ。途中から“ちゃっきり”のリズムから派生した様々な日本民謡が次々と登場する。ゆとりのある方は何曲使われているか数えてみよう。

36 Views for Four Horns
The title of this work is inspired by Katsushika Hokusai’s celebrated series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, a collection of woodblock prints depicting Mount Fuji from a wide variety of locations and perspectives.
The central concept of this composition is to observe the same subject repeatedly from different viewpoints. At times, the four horns present the same object as seen from different angles or distances; at others, they reveal only fragments of it.
Although the work takes the musical idea of variation as its starting point, its focus is not simply the transformation of musical material. Rather, it explores how changes in perspective and distance allow the same subject to emerge as entirely different sonic images.

Three Burlesques on Japanese Folk Songs
Commissioned by the Tokyo Horn Quartet, this work was completed in May 2026.
As the title suggests, the three short pieces are full of humor and playful imagination, drawing upon well-known Japanese folk songs.
I. Otemoyan
Japanese folk songs are rarely written in triple meter. To create a contrast with the surrounding movements, the lively duple-meter original has been transformed into a slightly whimsical waltz-like dance.
The original song is also famous for its unique lyrics, written entirely in the Kumamoto dialect.
II. Chakkiri-bushi
A bright and energetic finale based on a folk song from Shizuoka Prefecture.
As the movement unfolds, melodies from a variety of Japanese folk songs gradually appear, all derived from the characteristic rhythm of Chakkiri-bushi. Listeners with a keen ear are invited to discover how many folk tunes they can recognize.
つの笛集団とは
1978年、東京を拠点とするオーケストラの若手・中堅ホルン奏者によって結成されたホルンアンサンブル。
結成以来、毎年開催する定期演奏会をはじめ、NHK-FMへの出演、各地での演奏活動やイベントへの参加、そして毎年8月にはサマーキャンプを開催するなど、日本のホルン界を代表するアンサンブルとして活動を続けている。
1995年には山形、2014年にはロンドンそして、2026年にはクラクフで開催される第58回International Horn Symposiumに出演。
レパートリーは200曲を超え、その多くは作曲家への委嘱作品や、メンバーによる編曲作品によって構成されている。新たな作品を積極的に発表しながら、ホルンアンサンブルの可能性を広げ続けている。
About Tsunobue Shudan Tokyo Horn Ensemble
Founded in 1978 by young professional horn players from leading orchestras in the Tokyo metropolitan area, the Tsunobue Horn Ensemble is one of Japan’s longest-established and most distinguished horn ensembles.
The ensemble presents an annual concert series, appears on NHK-FM radio, performs at festivals and special events throughout Japan, and organizes its annual Summer Camp every August, bringing together horn players of all generations.
Tsunobue has appeared at the International Horn Symposium in Yamagata (1995), London (2014), and is honored to return for the 58th International Horn Symposium in Kraków (2026).
Its repertoire now exceeds 200 works and continues to expand through commissions from contemporary composers as well as original arrangements by ensemble members, reflecting the group’s ongoing commitment to enriching the horn ensemble repertoire.
